Bitcoin tumbled below $10,000 today (17.01.2018), bringing its loss to almost 50% from a record high set only a month ago, as increased scrutiny from regulators around the world weighs on the digital coin craze.

The largest of all the cryptocurrencies dropped 7% to $9,968 at 9.00am in New York.

This is the first fall below $10,000 since December 1st 2017.

It has fallen from its record high of $19,511 on 18th December 2017.

This has resulted in $140,000,000,000 being shaved off the currencies market value in just a month.
